ABSTRACT

'Abstract' is the slightly pompous title for a summary. It is a summary of your paper. It should be no longer than about 400 words. It says everything that you want to say in the document, without including any detail.

Obviously, your abstract should contain only ideas that are also in the document.

You are producing a abstract for readers who:

  • don't want to read the whole paper; or
  • want to decide whether to read more; or
  • want to work out where to find some part of the paper that interests them.
