Children are innocent and full of hope. Their childhood should be happy and loving. Their lives should mature gradually, as they gain new experiences. But for many children, the reality of childhood is altogether different. Right through history, children have been abused and exploited. They suffer from hunger and homelessness; work in harmful conditions, high infant mortality, deficient health care and limited opportunities for basic education. A child need not live such a life. Childhood must be preserved. Children have the right to survive, develop, be protected and participate in decisions that impact their lives.

“The principles of development, justice and inclusiveness are crucial in ensuring the best interests of the child. These principles need to be the guiding and overriding factor over all other agendas. To achieve the set target it’s the time when we should work together. Existing Govt. policies & programs are resourceful, but their execution needs more active participation of civil society organizations. We should come up with the said and discussed National Alliance and support the initiative with best possible ways what every organization possess. But before proceeding ahead we should finalize the future plans of the NCRC.”
Mr. Kailash Satyarthi
Chairperson, Global March Against Child Labour

Child Rights are fundamental freedom and the inherent rights of all human beings below the age of 18. These rights apply to every child, irrespective of the child's, parent's / legal guardian's race, colour, sex, creed or other status. The essential message is equality of opportunity. Girls should be given the same opportunities as boys. ALL children should have the same rights and should be given the same opportunity to enjoy an adequate standard of living.

In India the population of children, in age group of 0-14 is 350 million, which is 34% of total population (according to 2001 census of India). Many states have child populations similar to large countries. Taking due account of the importance of the traditions and cultural values of each people for the protection and harmonious development of the child and recognizing the importance of National co-operation for improving the living conditions of children in India, Open Forum in association with Deepalaya, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, K4D, Grameen Gyan Abhiyaan (Mission2007), World Vision, Prayaas, MV Foundation, Salaam Balak Trust, Oxygen -a-movement, SERFAC, Grassroots India Trust, Smile foundation, Read India, Learning Inq, Bandhua Mukti Morcha, Center for Social Research, Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability, The Tehelka Foundation, India Vision Foundation, Navjyoti India Foundation, Vidarbha Centre for Labour Concerns, HAQ: Centre for Child Rights, Satyam Foundation, Child Survival India, All India Women’s Conference, All India Women's Education Fund Association (AIWEFA), Go India Foundation and Campaign Against Child Labour came up with a National programme for Prevention and Protection of Rights of Child called National Convention on Rights of child (NCRC).
