The fiery Renuka Chowdhury's big plans have remained non-starters
Renuka Chowdhury seems to draw inspiration from controversies. The articulate minister for women and child development (WCD) has been in the news for her proposals, many of which have fallen by the wayside thanks to stiff opposition from various quarters, including sections in the government.

There are 1.6 crore children in Andhra Pradesh. According to the government 4.5 lac children are out of schools. If we are saying that only 4.5 lac are out of school, we are saying that 98% of children are already there. I wish it were true. So the main obstacle is in the assessment of the data regarding the number of children who are out of schools. The 25 years of struggle of freedom from slavery has given us this experience that the most illicit trade of our times-human trafficking cannot be stopped without a mass movement.
